Nashawtuc Celebrates Women & Golf
International Women’s Golf Day comes to Nashawtuc Country Club, introducing women of all ages to the wonderful game of golf. Women’s Golf Day is a globally initiative that empowers females of all skill levels to participate in golf, help grow the game and creating meaningful connections that will last a lifetime.
Over 35 women attended this year’s event at Nashawtuc Country Club. The women participated in a demonstration from Ping and Callaway, learned golf fundamentals at a clinic taught by LPGA professional and Director of Instruction at Nashawtuc, McKenzie Wells, and played in a nine hole scramble on the course. The evening finished with a terrific trunk show featuring fashion and footwear from Puma & Nike.
The participants loved the format and enjoyed connecting with other women with similar interest. McKenzie Wells works hard every day to make a positive impact through the game of golf. “Today was an amazing opportunity to celebrate women playing golf and learning the skills that last a lifetime. Our participants represented women in our community, from all professions and all ages, noted Wells, “New golf skills were learned, the women played in a team environment, and new friendships were made; overall a great day for women and the game of golf!”

Breast Cancer Patient Support at Newton-Wellesley Hospital
The Caterina Mose Allia Endowed Fund for Breast Cancer Patient Support at Newton-Wellesley Hospital provides breast cancer patients who face financial hardship with assistance while receiving care at the Vernon Cancer Center. The fund provides support to patients who may need financial assistance due to the reduction in income that can be associated with a cancer diagnosis and/or the unexpected costs associated with treatment. The Fund can be used to help patients with expenses such as travel, childcare, prosthetics, household bills and complementary therapies such as reiki, meditation, yoga, massage and acupuncture.
Another Nashawtuc Junior Wins Championship
Nashawtuc's own, Charlie Reichle, of Concord-Carlisle Swim & Dive Team has won the State Diving Championship!
Charlie began his love for swimming and diving at the club under the tutelage of Coach Wil Aybar. After years of training and practice, Charlie surpassed his own goals and won the championship at 15 years old.
"I started diving at NCC when I was 6 with Coach Wil. I look forward to diving with him every summer! He has taught me a lot over the years," Charlie Reichle.
Wil Aybar's dedication and love for diving is commendable. He is inspired by our young members and is committed to creating a championship dive team at NCC.

One of Our Own Captures the NE PGA Championship
Congratulations to Liam Friedman, NCC Assistant Golf Professional, on capturing the New England PGA Championship. Liam carded rounds of 70, 69, 69 for an 8-under par total of 208. The 54-hole event was played at Turner Hill and Renaissance Golf Club over the past 3 days.
Liam’s victory earned him an exemption into the 2018 PGA Professional Championship in Monterey, CA. The event will take place June 17-20, 2018, where the top 20 finishers will be rewarded with an exemption into the PGA Championship. Liam also picked up the $13,500 winners check for his solid play.
Nashawtuc 2016 Toy Drive
The members of Nashawtuc Country Club once again provided a memorable Christmas for children of deployed military at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. During a two-week Toy Drive campaign, Nashawtuc members were able to fulfill the wishes of over 35 children from a gift registry.
The members generously purchased a variety of gifts ranging from bicycles to Barbie dolls as well as roller skates and Hot Wheels. In addition, members who were out of state or were short on time were also able to participate by simply making a monetary donation. Additional gift cards were then purchased to ensure every child received a gift this holiday season. The combined total gifts and monies contributed was over $6000.00.

I can only imagine how happy these children will be when they see what you have done for us and I am excited for to see the joy on their faces. Nashawtuc Autumn Chicken Sandwich
Concord, MA. October 1, 2016, Nashawtuc Country Club’s Chef Mark Maturin creates the perfect taste of Fall in a simple chicken sandwich.
Nashawtuc boasts a seasonal menu that allows our chefs to provide our members a variety of fresh, local, hand crafted selections. Each season offers an array delicious fruits and vegetables that our bodies crave as the weather changes; it’s a great opportunity to experiment with flavors and combinations.
The trees that line the fairways at Nashawtuc began to change color with the season and Executive Chef Mark Mathurin knew it was time to change up a luncheon favorite. “Fall always reminds me of the comforts of home and the smell of a traditional turkey dinner roasting in the oven. With that in mind, I wanted to create a delicious sandwich that is hearty and tastes like the season!” said Chef.
Chef Mark combined all of the fall favorites into one delicious and satisfying Autumn Chicken Sandwich. With each bite you taste stuffing, cranberry sauce, creamy cheese, chicken and it is all housed within a delicious Brioche roll. The Sandwich made its debut on the lunch menu and members couldn’t wait to bite into a taste of autumn. It is served alongside warm chicken gravy so that you may dunk every bite into warm goodness. “It’s the perfect sandwich after a round of golf on a brisk day; it really satisfies!” reported one member.
The benefits of choosing to eat seasonally are wide ranging. But for the members of Nashawtuc, they simply need to look to their Executive Chef, Mark Mathurin for inspiration.

Nashawtuc Country Club Gives Birth to Golf Sensations
Concord, July 28, 2016- Since its inception in 1960, Nashawtuc Country Club has played an active role in shaping and promoting golf in New England and beyond. This tradition of innovation and leadership is alive and strong today, in our Junior Select Golf Program. In late 2012, the Club’s Golf Professional, Chris Carpenter, was searching for a way to further the success of a budding junior golf revival at the club. The environment and timing was perfect for Nashawtuc to reinvent and reimagine junior golf programming.

Matt Organisak, Nashawtuc Club Champion, is on his way to 116th US Amateur Championship. Organisak carded 6 birdies in his final round 67 at George Wright Golf Course on Tuesday. This year’s US Amateur will begin on August 15th at the storied Oakland Hill Country Club in Bloomfield, Michigan
Michael Thorbjorsen, a new member of our Junior Select program, led the first round of the 49th Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament at Hyannisport Club on Wednesday with an opening 66. The 14-year old Thorbjornsen finished the event in 6th place in a field packed with the best amateur golfers in New England. Michael is also the defending champion of the National Drive, Chip and Putt competition conducted at Augusta National each year.
Jack Lang, a 2015 Junior Select graduate and rising sophomore at Davidson University, defeated the defending champion in route to his final 8 appearance in the Massachusetts Amateur. Lang was also named the Atlantic 10’s Rookie of the year.
Finally, Andrew DiPetrillo captured the 2016 Golfweek Invitational with a closing nine 33 (-3) to rally to a 1 stroke victory.
Chris Carpenter, Director of Golf at Nashawtuc Country Club, believes that, “The ability to recruit top junior golfers to make Nashawtuc their home club has given us the mass we needed to create a top-notch environment for junior golf. We as professionals and parents can push kids into golf as hard as we want, but when kids are pulled into participation by their peers, it is much more effective and long-lasting”. Effective it is, and the benefit’s Nashawtuc has experienced from the Junior Select Program has been wide-ranging. New members attracted to the unmatched junior golf opportunities of the club, and consistent recognition of our Junior Select athletes in local, state and national golf events, are the two of the program’s most visible benefits.

Nashawtuc Country Club hosts their annual member charity golf tournament, The Drive, to benefit Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
Bridge Over Troubled Waters is a Boston based non-profit that provides life changing services for homeless and high risk youths ages 14-24.
At the end of the day, Nashawtuc President Bill Scheid, was thrilled and proud to present a check for $26,000 to Elisabeth Jackson, Executive Director of Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
Bridge Over Troubled Waters remains a national model and program incubator for youth development services which are effective in helping the most troubled and vulnerable homeless your to turn their lives around.

There is a Buzz at Nashawtuc Country Club…

The environment and wildlife have been a priority at Nashawtuc Country Club. The grounds staff’s commitment is evident in the newly installed buffer strips around the ponds, the cultivated wetland plants, the Eastern Bluebird program, and the conversion of turf to wild flowers and meadow grasses to name a few. But it wasn’t until 2015 that Nashawtuc decided to try their hand at bee keeping; and it is the honeybee keeping that has proved to be the most fun and successful of all.
Just how important are honeybees to the environment?
“Typically these under-appreciated workers pollinate 80 percent of our flowering crops, which constitute one-third of everything we eat. Last year the NCC honeybees reproduced rapidly and we were able to harvest, filter, and bottle a few quarts of honey; we named it Arrowhead Honey,” explained Greg Cormier, Director of Golf Course Operations at Nashawtuc Country Club. “We then turned our product over to our executive chef who created salad dressings, marinades, and desserts that were featured on our nightly dinner specials; our members loved it!”
In addition to Mr. Cormier, Dan “Doc” O’Connell (a 45 year employee of the club and avid outdoorsman) attended Bee School over the last two winters to learn beekeeping basics. The Nashawtuc bees are located on approximately 4 acres of wildflower and abundant food source covered land. The club has 4 hives and they are located just 50’ from the golf course. Members have really enjoyed hearing updates about the bees in the monthly communications written by the Grounds Staff and are eager to enjoy the honey for themselves.
The overall goal is not to be in the honey production business but rather to help the issues facing honeybees, both locally and globally. CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder, has become very common in the region. Bees colonies have been dying off suddenly and researchers are trying to figure out why. Members and the Management team at Nashawtuc learned of this problem facing honeybees in 2014. In 2015 the club installed 2 hives. Since then the state Apiary Inspector reported,” Nashawtuc’s hives are some of the healthiest in the area.” Nashawtuc has added two additional hives this spring, and plan to expand the program each year.
Nashawtuc Provides Holiday Cheer to Military Children
The members of Nashawtuc Country Club provided a memorable Christmas for children of deployed military at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. During a two week Toy Drive campaign, Nashawtuc members were able to fulfill the wishes of 66 children from 24 families from a gift registry.
Many parents used this campaign as an opportunity to teach their children the true meaning of Christmas. The parent and child select a child similar in age and interest to their own, together they purchase the gift, and then the child places the gift under the tree. One child remarked, “It’s fun and it makes you feel good when you can buy a gift for someone like yourself. It’s my Mom’s favorite part of Christmas!”

“The Nashawtuc Members are special. Their generosity continues to impress me,” said General Manager Ric Shultz. “With all of us so busy in our own lives, our members always think about the less fortunate and donate their time and money to many different charities throughout the year. The Military families sacrifice so much for us it’s great to give back. To see the excitement and joy on the children’s faces when they receive that special present, is truly what the holidays are all about.”
